In the 552nd issue of ProcessWire Weekly we'll check out the latest weekly update from Ryan, take a quick look at a new e-commerce solution for ProcessWire, and more. Read on!
Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! In this week's issue we're going to check out the latest weekly update from Ryan, which is a brief introduction to a newly released non-core Inputfield module, called Small Select Multiple. There are no new core updates to share this time, but we'll get back to those by next week.
In other news we're excited to share the latest news about a brand-new third party e-commerce solution for ProcessWire: RockCommerce by Bernhard Baumrock. There is a very informative quickstart video available for this module, so you can get a good idea about what it does and how it works. And, as always, we've also got a new site of the week to highlight — this week belonging to the St. Märgen Citizens' Association.
Just a quick reminder that our previous issue had a poll that is still open if you've got a bit of time. It's about a specific feature related to development tools, and only takes a moment to answer, so check it out if you haven't already. Thanks in advance!
Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!
Weekly update from Ryan: introducing the Small Select Multiple Inputfield
In his latest weekly update Ryan talks about a new project of his that is now available as a free non-core module: the Small Select Multiple Inputfield. As the sites directory entry explains, it is a lightweight Inputfield that adds multiple selection ability to the regular browser native select input.
According to Ryan, this module was created for a client of his, and tailored for the task of handling a case where there are many selectable options and users may choose and pick a lot of said options. Original solution were checkboxes, which were then replaced by AsmSelect, and now finally with the Small Select Multiple Inputfield for the easiest, most manageable end result.
The many benefits of this inputfield, compared to other solutions out there, include...
- Light weight and reliability, in part due to it relying very much on the native browser select element.
- Space-saving design, since the input does not grow depending on selected options etc.
- Options can be selected and deselected individually, or all at once.
Small Select Multiple Inputfield can be used in all cases where you could use the core InputfieldSelectMultiple option, which means that it works (among other things) with the Select Options fieldtype, Page reference fieldtype, forms created using ProcessWire's built-in form elements, and the commercial FormBuilder module.
If you'd like to give this module a try, you can clone or download it from the Small Select Multiple Inputfield GitHub repository. For more details, be sure to check out the Small Select Multiple Inputfield module's directory entry, as well as the weekly update from Ryan. Thanks!
New module: RockCommerce
One of the latest modules to hit our modules directory is a brand-new commercial e-commerce solution created by Bernhard Baumrock: RockCommerce. This module has been in the works for a while, and some related features have already been released in the form of other modules, but the main thing is finally here.
Here's a list of features for this module, from the module's docs page:
- Product management through ProcessWire pages
- Product variations
- Order management
- Easy integration with payment providers (like Mollie, for example)
- Frontend-driven cart system using Alpine.js
- Fully customizable markup, styling
- Extensible through ProcessWire hooks
- Full ProCache support
Instead of going too far into the nitty-gritty of the module, we'll let Bernhard introduce it through the video demonstration available via YouTube. The video is based on the official quickstart tutorial, which was in fact created by one of the early beta testers of RockCommerce, @Sanyaissues.
As we mentioned above, RockCommerce is a commercial module, available to purchase from baumrock.com. Just like many other modules from Bernhard, you can either buy it individually, or save a bunch by purchasing the RockSuite module bundle.
Thanks to Bernhard for sharing this project with us, and of course congratulations for getting it finished and released!
Site of the week: Bürgergemeinschaft St. Märgen
Our latest site of the week belongs to Bürgergemeinschaft St. Märgen, or the St. Märgen Citizens' Association. They are a registered association that takes on various social tasks for the benefit of local residents and community: helping people in need, promoting integration, organizing training and events, and so on.
For those not familiar with the area, St. Märgen is a municipality, a health resort, and a pilgrimage site located in the middle of the Black Forest, Germany. You can find more information about it (in German) from alemannische-seiten.de.
The St. Märgen Citizens' Association takes on a variety of social tasks and challenges and organizes support for residents in need, primarily in the municipality of St. Märgen. The aim is to tackle existing and emerging social tasks and emergencies in the community through joint action.
— Sites directory entry for the St. Märgen Citizens' Association
The website of the St. Märgen Citizens' Association was crafted by designconcepts GmbH. It is a straightforward, nicely designed site with a clean visual style and layout, and some animations thrown in for good measure. Content wise this site has all the necessities for an association website: details about the work they do and the people responsible for it, instructions for participating or supporting via donations, news and articles, and of course contact details.
As for behind the scenes details, the front-end of this site was created with Uikit, and from what we can tell most of the UI and UI features are powered by this full-featured front-end framework. In terms of non-core ProcessWire modules, there is at least one that we are familiar with: the commercial caching and optimization tool ProCache.
Thanks to the folks at designconcepts GmbH for sharing this project with us, and our congratulations to the client, St. Märgen Citizens' Association, for their ProcessWire powered website!
