ProcessWire Weekly #589

The 589th issue of ProcessWire Weekly brings in all the latest news from the ProcessWire community. Modules, sites, and more. Read on!

Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! In this week's issue we're going to check out the latest core updates, which include some admin theme updates, and other relatively minor changes, as well as introduce a new third-party ProcessWire module called Textformatter Smart Quotes.

As always we've also got a new site of the week to highlight. That site was created by designconcepts GmbH, and belongs to a German foundation working together with local initiatives in the Global South in order to drive sustainable development through various, locally initiated projects. More about them and their ProcessWire powered website in just a bit.

Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!

Latest core updates

There's no weekly update from Ryan for this week, but we do have a few minor updates in the dev branch. Here's a brief summary of what's new since last week:

  • Minor updates and fixes to the Konkat admin theme style.
  • Numerous code comment updates for core modules. These were mainly added to improve the API reference section of the ProcessWire website, which is automatically generated from the PHPDoc comments in the source code.
  • Improvements to Repeaters, adding support for custom repeater item colors in Konkat (default) admin theme style, along with code comment updates and some other (relatively minor) updates.

That's all for our weekly core updates section for this week. For more details, feel free to check out the weekly dev branch commit log at GitHub. Thanks!

New module: Textformatter Smart Quotes

Textformatter Smart Quotes is a brand-new third party ProcessWire module developed by frameless Media. In a nutshell this module is a textformatter that you can enable for text type fields, and once enabled it will automatically replace straight quotes ("...") with typographic quotes — German „...“, English “...”, or French «...».

The module provides configuration setting for defining which quote style you'd like to use, and one of its selling points is that it is carefully crafted to only modify visible text, leaving markup untouched. The module's implementation is very straightforward, which also means that it's quite light-weight, but as the author explains in the module's README, it could be potentially extended in the future with new options and features.

If you'd like to give this module a try, you can install it via the built-in modules manager in the admin, or clone or download the source code from the TextformatterSmartQuotes GitHub repository. If you have questions, suggestions, or need help getting started, be sure to visit the Textformatter Smart Quotes support forum thread.

Big thanks to the team at frameless Media for creating this module and sharing it with the ProcessWire community!

Site of the week: solidum Foundation

Our latest site of the week belongs to solidum Foundation. Founded in 2024, solidum Foundation works in partnership with people and local initiatives in countries in the Global South. Their goal is to drive positive change through projects that involve education, equality, and sustainable development.

In 2024, five people came together who no longer just want to talk about global challenges but actively shape change. As the solidum Foundation, we rely on the power of joint action and support initiatives for education, equality and sustainable development in the countries of the Global South.

The solidum Foundation website was created by designconcepts GmbH. It is a straightforward site with details about the foundation — including their principles, statutes, etc. — along with various projects they've taken part in, and a page dedicated to instructions for submitting donations to the foundation for those interested in supporting their work. The design of the site is equally straightforward, clean and modern, and quite easy to grasp.

Taking a quick peek behind the scenes, the front-end of this site appears to be powered by the Uikit front-end framework. There are also a couple of familiar non-core ProcessWire modules visible on the site: the caching and minification tool ProCache, along with another commercial Pro module, all-in-one form management toolkit FormBuilder.

Our congratulations to both the client, solidum Foundation, for their ProcessWire powered website, as well as the team behind this project for a job well done!
