The 596th issue of ProcessWire Weekly brings in all the latest news from the ProcessWire community. Modules, sites, and more. Read on!
Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! This week there are no notable core updates to share, as there has only been one minor CSS improvement to the new Konkat admin theme style. We do, though, have a new weekly update from Ryan, in which he introduces a new version of the commercial Pro module ProCache.
In other news we've got a brand-new third party module to share: Quick Tree, or AdminQuickTree, from Jan Ploch. And, as always, we've also got a new site of the week to highlight; this week that site belongs to a small town in Colorado, United States: the town of Mountain Village.
Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!
Weekly update from Ryan: new version of the ProCache module
This week we've got a weekly update from Ryan, in which he covers the latest version of the Pro module ProCache, 4.0.7. For those not familiar with ProCache, it is an all-in-one caching and minification solution, and — in my humble opinion — the easiest way out there to make your ProcessWire powered site not just faster, but also more scalable.
Here's what's new in ProCache 4.0.7:
- Full support for PHP 8.4.
- Updated JS and CSS minifier (1.3.75).
- Updated Less compiler (Wikimedia LESS 5.4.1).
- Updated SCSS compiler (Leafo SCSSPHP 2.0.1).
- LESS/SCSS and Minify status and error logging to the console. This is enabled while in debug mode, or if logged in as a superuser.
LESS, SCSS, and Minifier versions can be selected/changed via ProCache configuration, and there are earlier versions of each of these available should you need them (e.g. if your site is still running on an older version of PHP). Latest version of Leafo SCSSPHP, for an example, requires at least PHP 8.2.
ProCache API reference is also now available as a part of the official ProcessWire docs.
For more details, be sure to check out the weekly update from Ryan, and if you're a ProCache user, definitely check out the new API docs section for it as well. Thanks!
New module: Quick Tree
Quick Tree is a new third-party module created by Jan Ploch. This module makes a small but potentially quite useful modification to the admin side header bar, and more specifically the "Pages" section in it: normally you would hover over the "Pages" link and then the "Tree" section under that to see the page tree, but this module moves the page tree one level higher, removing the "Tree" section completely.

This module, which is actually mostly a very small JavaScript file and a little bit of CSS wrapped in a module that injects said files to the admin, can be cloned or downloaded from the AdminQuickTree GitHub repository, or installed via the built-in modules manager in the admin. If you need any additional assistance or want to share your comments, head down to the Quick Tree module support forum thread.
Big thanks to Jan Ploch for creating this module and sharing it with us!
Site of the week: town of Mountain Village
Our latest site of the week is that of Mountain Village, a small town located in San Miguel County, southwestern Colorado.
Mountain Village offers modern amenities, ski-in/ski-out accommodations, and sweeping views. It is also connected with another well known location, Telluride, by a gondola ride that according to the Colorado Tourism Office is the first and only free public transportation system of its kind in the United States.
Located at 9,545 feet in southwest Colorado surrounded by the stunning San Juan Mountains and world-class Telluride Ski Resort.
The Mountain Village website was created by VentureWeb Design Ltd. It is a nice looking and easy to grasp site, with plenty of information for tourists and residents alike — parking and gondola rides, news and events, conference center introduction, and of course information about child care and preschool, housing, public services, and so on. As a singular highlight it was nice to see that the news section appears to be very actively maintained, covering local happenings, town council meetings, and so on.
As for some behind the scenes details, it looks like the front-end of this site was largely custom-built, using a BEM type CSS architecture. Some third party utilities used on the front-end include an embedded Google Translate utility, form embeds by Formstack, and an accessibility tool from accessiBe. As for non-core ProcessWire modules, a couple that we could spot in action here include ProCache and PrivacyWire.
Our congratulations to both the client, the town of Mountain Village in Colorado, as well as the team behind this project at VentureWeb Design Ltd, for a job well done. This is a very nice small town website for sure!
