Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! In this week's issue we'll share the latest weekly update from Ryan, which includes a potential release date for a new stable version of ProcessWire. And, in other news, we're also going to introduce a brand-new third-party module called Module Folder Cleaner.

As always we've also got a new site of the week to highlight. This week that site belongs to Höpperger, which is a Tyrol based waste management company with impressive track record and a really nice, ProcessWire powered website. More about that in just a bit, so keep on reading.

Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!

Weekly update from Ryan

This week we don't have any new core updates to share, but there is a weekly update from Ryan at the support forum. To sum things up, Ryan has been busy working on a client project, in which he's been using the latest development version of ProcessWire — which, unsurprisingly, has proved to be quite stable as it is.

And this, in turn, brings us to a pretty big news item for this week, which is that we now have a potential release date for a new stable version of ProcessWire.

But it did make me think the current dev branch really belongs on the main branch. So I think that as soon as we wrap this project up, I’d like to get a new main/master branch version ready by or before the end of the year, so that’s the goal.

— Ryan

As always before the release of a new stable version, we ask that if you have the time, give the dev branch a try and see how it works. In case you spot any issues, be sure to report them via the processwire-issues repository at GitHub, or post your observations to the support forum in case that's easier for you. Thanks in advance.

That's all for our core updates section this week. We'll be back with more news by next week. In the meantime, be sure to check out the latest weekly update from Ryan, and keep on reading for other news and updates. Thanks!

New module: Module Folder Cleaner

Module Folder Cleaner, or ProcessModuleCleaner, is a new third-party ProcessWire module by Markus Thomas. As the name suggests, this module is indeed a module folder cleaner: it provides a GUI for viewing and removing module directories prefixed by a dot, e.g. /site/modules/.ModuleName/.

Screen capture of the Module Cleaner admin view with a couple of left-over directories.

As the module's README file explains, such directories can be left-overs from module upgrades by ProcessWire itself, but they could also be something that a developer has left in place at some point. Either way, they are potentially taking unnecessary space, and could contain old code and such, so cleaning them up (once no longer necessary or useful) is definitely a good idea.

If you'd like to give this module a try, you can clone or download it from the Process Module Cleaner GitHub repository. In case you have questions or require additional support, be sure to visit the Process Module Cleaner support forum thread.

Big thanks to Markus for creating this module and sharing it with us!

Site of the week: Umweltschutz Höpperger

Our latest site of the week belongs to Höpperger GmbH & Co. KG, which is the leading waste management company in the Tyrol area. Founded in 1965, the company has more than 180 employees, and their services range from waste collection and tank cleaning to sorting lightweight packaging and composting.

With a strong team of over 180 employees, we collect and process a large portion of the approximately 100,000 tons of waste delivered annually to Pfaffenhofen in state-of-the-art facilities. As a family business, we uphold traditional values such as respect and appreciation in our daily work.

— Höpperger GMbH & Co. KG (translated)

Created by Werbeagentur Buerostark, the Höpperger website is a great looking site with a clean and modern design, distinctive visuals, and creative layout choices. There's also plenty of quality content, and the site has some interesting features, including as a very useful accessibility assistant widget. This widget allows one to easily switch on and off features such as dyslexia-friendly typography, color theme optimized for color-blind visitors, and so on.

As for some behind the scenes details, the front-end of this site is largely built on top of the Uikit front-end framework in combination with some other third-party utilities, including a tawk.to chat widget and accessibility and social feed widgets from Elfsight. As for non-core ProcessWire modules, there's at least one that we are quite familiar with: ProCache, the commercial all-in-one caching and minification solution.

Our congratulations to Höpperger GmbH & Co KG for their new, ProcessWire powered website, and of course to the team at Werbeagentur Buerostark for a job well done!
