ProcessWire Weekly #636

The 636th issue of ProcessWire Weekly brings in all the latest news from the ProcessWire community. Modules, sites, and more. Read on!

Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! In this week's issue we're going to share a quick weekly update from Ryan, and also introduce a newly released and very interesting third-party module created by Jonathan Lahijani: Page Modal Select.

As always we've also got a new site of the week to highlight. This week that site belongs to the Italian telecommunications operator Alpsim, and it is definitely one of the nicest looking sites we've had the privilege to explore, so be sure to check it out.

Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!

Weekly update from Ryan

This week we have a brief weekly update from Ryan. He's currently traveling, and sends his regards from Oslo, Norway. As such, we don't have any new core updates to share, and the same applies to next week as well.

After a couple of slower weeks we are going to get back to our regular schedule again, but in the meantime be sure to check out some of the amazing projects being worked on by the community. One that Ryan also mentions in his update is the new version of PAGEGRID, 2.3, which — among other things — adds a whole new drafts system!

That's all for our core updates section this week, but be sure to check out the weekly update from Ryan as well, and keep on reading for other news and updates.

New module: Page Modal Select

Page Modal Select is a new third-party inputfield module for page selection, created by Jonathan Lahijani. Whereas most page selection (page reference) inputfields provide some simple manner of selecting pages, e.g. a dropdown or series of checkboxes or something like that, this module is a bit more involved:

  • Items can be filtered using a real-time finder tool and then checked to include, making it very easy to pick the correct items among a large number of options.
  • Selected items can also be filtered, which can be especially helpful in case you have a lot of items selected.
  • The initial order of items is based on the order you picked them, but you can easily re-sort them at any point by a drag-and-drop interface or by typing in numeric index number.

The module also allows you to customize certain features, including the selector operator, fields to search, number of results, and columns displayed for each found result.

InputfieldPageModalSelect is a ProcessWire inputfield for multi-page reference fields. It provides a modal-based page picker for advanced page selection workflows where a normal select, asmSelect, or PageListSelectMultiple interface is not enough.

— Jonathan Lahijani

After some testing, I can say that Page Modal Select feels very smooth and intuitive. The features it packs are well-thought-out, the GUI and UX in general feels nice and snappy, and overall this seems like a solid option (especially) for cases where there is a larger amount of options to choose from.

If you'd like to give this module a try, you can install it via the built-in modules manager in the admin, or clone or download the source code from the InputfieldPageModalSelect GitHub repository. If you have questions for the author or require additional assistance, head down to the Page Modal Select support forum thread.

Big thanks to Jonathan for creating this module and sharing it with us!

Site of the week: Alpsim

Our latest site of the week belongs to Alpsim — an Italian telecommunications operator.

Alpsim SRL is based in South Tyrol and specializes in providing wireless and fixed broadband internet solutions across Italy. According to various online sources they are highly regarded — among other things — for their unlimited mobile data plans, gaming and smart home friendly technology, and user-friendly subscription models.

From the Alps to every corner of Italy, we bring internet everywhere.

— Alpsim

The Alpsim website features a very nice design, it is multilingual — available in Italian and German — and though it's not a huge site by any means, there's plenty of quality content here as well. Content wise this site provides details about Alpsim's products, has info sections for private and business customers, includes a blog, and more.

As for some behind the scenes details, the front-end of this site appears to be largely custom-built, without the help of a full-blown front-end framework. While there are no signs of familiar non-core ProcessWire modules here either, one familiar front-end utility we could spot is GSAP, the ever-so-popular JavaScript animation library.

Our congratulations to Alpsim; their ProcessWire powered website both looks and feels really nice, so definitely a job well done!
