The 649th issue of ProcessWire Weekly brings in all the latest news from the ProcessWire community. Modules, sites, and more. Read on!

Welcome to the latest issue of ProcessWire Weekly! In this issue we're going to check out the latest core updates for the dev branch of ProcessWire at GitHub, as well as introduce a new third-party ProcessWire module called WireMail Google.

As always we've also got a new site of the week to highlight, and this week that site belongs to the German manufacturer of high-end desktop gaming PCs, laptops, and professional workstation — CAPTIVA GmbH. Keep on reading for more details.

Thanks to all of our readers for being here with us again, and as always, any feedback is most welcome – please don't hesitate to drop us a line if there's anything in your mind you'd like to share with us. Enjoy our latest issue and have a great weekend!

Latest core updates

After nearly two weeks with no new core updates to report, this week we are more or less back to our regular schedule, and as such there are a bunch of additions for the dev branch of ProcessWire at GitHub.

One notable update this week is for the core PagePaths module. Since it got updated with multi-lingual support back in 2021, it has by default created an empty index, and required a rebuild to be triggered via module config screen. As of this week it instead populates the index automatically if the site has 10,000 or fewer pages, while for sites bigger than that it displays a notice explaining that a rebuild can be triggered via CLI:

php index.php pagepaths rebuild [/branch/path/]

You can also check the index status via command-line:

php index.php pagepaths status

In other news...

Meanwhile, here's a brief summary of what else is new this week:

  • Improvements and updates for admin navigation, bookmarks, image selection, link editing, and log management
  • A fix for issue #2353 where WireFileTools::render() was rejecting some valid files on Windows
  • A fix for issue #2354 where Modules::refresh() was ignoring updates for the .info.php and .info.json files
  • A fix for issue #2357 where ModulesFiles::loadModuleFileAssets() did not follow $config->useVersionUrls
  • A fix for issue #2358 where admin links toggling submenus were also causing navigation
  • A fix for issue #2360 where trashed pages with locked children could not be deleted at all
  • A fix for issue #2361 where duplicated, adjacent pw-optional elements were breaking Markup Regions
  • New bundled tests for core features, such as image selection, lister, Markup Regions, WireLog, and more

That's all for our core updates section this week, but keep on reading for other news and updates. Thanks!

New module: WireMail Google

WireMail Google is a new third-party ProcessWire module created by Maxim Semenov. As the name suggests, it is a WireMail module, e.g. a module that can take over email sending for your ProcessWire powered website, and (in this case) route it through the Gmail (or Google Workspace).

[WireMail Google] is made for sites that want simple Gmail delivery without setting up a Google Cloud project or OAuth application: contact forms, password emails, order notices, booking confirmations and admin alerts.

— Maxim Semenov

WireMail Google is an easy-to-use module, only requirements being that you install the module and type in your credentials. For that latter step you do, though, need to create a Google App Password. Once the module has been installed and configured, you use it just like any other WireMail module — automatically for the messages that ProcessWire or installed modules send, or programmatically via the familiar WireMail API:

$sent = wireMail()
    ->to('[email protected]', 'Person')
    ->subject('Your request was received')
    ->body('We received your request.')
    ->bodyHTML('<p>We received your request.</p>')
    ->send();

If you'd like to give this module a try, you can install it via the built-in modules manager in the admin, or clone or download the module's source code from the WireMailGoogle GitHub repository. If you have questions for the author, head down to the WireMail Google support forum thread.

Big thanks to Maxim for creating this module and sharing it with us!

Site of the week: CAPTIVA GmbH

Our latest site of the week belongs to CAPTIVA GmbH, a well-know German computer manufacturer that specializes in building and configuring desktop gaming PCs, laptops, and professional workstations.

CAPTIVA was founded back in 1995. They originally began by distributing graphics cards under their own CAPTIVA® brand, but later expanded into manufacturing high-quality gaming PCs, notebooks, and professional workstations. Based in Dachau, Bavaria (just outside of Munich), they operate under a build-to-order (BTO) process for custom systems, while also supplying pre-built rigs to major European tech retailers.

From the no-compromise gaming tower to the mobile workstation — every CAPTIVA machine is built to your specification.

— CAPTIVA GmbH

The CAPTIVA website has been powered by ProcessWire for quite a while already, with the initial version dating at least back to 2017. You can read more about that project from the showcase forum thread. Meanwhile, the latest iteration is a very nice looking and very easy to grasp website that is clearly styled to attract gamers, with plenty of neon colors and futuristic imagery. There's also plenty of solid information, a very nice product listing and filtering tool, and more.

As for some behind the scenes details, this site appears to be largely custom-built, though it does make use of some Uikit features as well, and some third-party utilities, such as an accessibility widget from consentmanager.net. When it comes to ProcessWire modules, the one and only third-party module we could spot is Simple Contact Form.

Our congratulations to CAPTIVA for their new, ProcessWire powred website!
